February 2011 - Kangaroo Valley Amateur Fishing Club
The Kangaroo Valley Amateur Fishing Club held its December Safari at Greenwell Point.
Nine members attended and the weather was very kind to us.
During our meal on Friday night, we planned an early start the next morning, all were allocated to boats and all looked set for a great Saturday morning of comfortable fishing. Breakfast was served at 6.30 am by 7.30 we were packed and ready to go.
Then there was a problem, one of our “Smart”er members forgot the keys to his boat. This meant that some could not go out to sea on both days but luckily we had a “tinny” so fishing in the river was the alternative for some.
The skipper of one of the boats was joined by Chuck and the most senior member of the Club, now known as “Rex Hunt”.
The three of us set out to sea, which was relatively calm with not much wind.
After casting out and hauling in a few good flathead, Rex felt a little woozy.
After losing his dinner and breakfast, things got worse, so rather than letting him suffer any longer we returned to shore.
We were back before the Cricket started and Rex was not seen again until later in the afternoon.
Chuck didn’t really mind as not catching anything meant no fish to clean.
The youngest member of the Club caught some great crabs, which he cooked for us and the one who forgot his keys purchased some oysters, so the entrée before our Saturday traditional baked dinner was outstanding.
Overall the fishing was not too bad and as can be seen in the photo, some reasonable tailer were caught.
Oops, someone forgot to tell those who caught them that they must be “bled” immediately after being caught.
We now have bait for our next trip.
Our January mid week Safari was postponed mainly due to the difficulty most members have in affording the time off work.
Our next Safari is at Bermagui and the house has been booked from the 14th March to 21st March 2011.
