December 2011 - Kangaroo Valley Tennis Club

Having postponed the Tennis Club Social Day last September because of rain, the weather on Sunday November 20 could not have been better: after a sticky start there was cloud cover and a pleasant breeze and more than 40 men women and children enjoyed the day.

Under the steady hand of Dion Larkins the sub-committee organised both Singles and Doubles Competitions for the adults and Janette Merchant and Amanda Gazzard kept the children amused with the great new low compression balls that allow even the tiniest of children to powerfully hit the ball over the regular net; the adults enjoyed trying out these balls too.

All players were given handicap points so that the A graders were able to compete with the B graders.

After an extremely evenly matched final, that ended with a tie-breaker, Oliver Radic defeated Dion Larkins and the winners in the Doubles were Paul Turnock with Oliver Radic.

Unfortunately there weren’t as many children taking part as expected because the Fyre play "Island" involved most of the school children and their parents and Holy Communion counted for the rest.

So we would like to give special mention to Emily S, Emilie H, Taidgh and Evan, Bryn and Jarrah and Will, who all took part in the round robin event and played with vigour and great sportsmanship.

We look forward to another opportunity to hold these events when maybe we will be the sole event of the day!

Our children in the Valley live such full lives, it’s wonderful to see.

We would also like to thank Oscar Scherl who was chef extraordinaire at the BBQ and Judy Inall who masterminded the scoring and round robins.
