September 2011

Church of the Good Shepherd

It’s been an eventful month at the Church of the Good Shepherd.

We’re delighted to see God powerfully at work in Kangaroo Valley.

Another young lady in the Valley has decided to follow Jesus as her Lord and Saviour this month. Fantastic news!

A few days after she made this decision her 81 year old friend also decided to become a Christian. It’s never too late to commit your life into the caring arms of Jesus!

Our music workshop night for our Valley youth was a great success.

We had invited Jordan Worner from Carols in the Valley last year to visit our teenagers in KV. Another young bloke, Zac, spoke to the group about his faith in Jesus.

After that, the group had a long ‘jam session’ learning some new songs.

Jordan came back to lead the music at our 10 am service. He sang beautifully and shared how he became a Christian at the age of 17.

On Sunday August 28 The Bishop of Wollongong, Peter Hayward, came and spoke to both our congregations at 8-30 am and 10 am. We were excited to hear about the work God is doing around the Wollongong and Shoalhaven region.

Peter grew up in the Shoalhaven and it was good to encourage a local boy!

Our ‘Care and Share’ group on Thursdays at 1 pm is enjoying its latest craft projects.

Each week in term time craft lovers meet and do craft and also hear from God’s word.

In other news, Josh Baglin and Fairlie Cusack (a young couple from Andrew’s former church at Mittagong) are to be married on Saturday September 3.

From St Joseph's Church.

Some of our children and the grandchildren of parishioners are preparing to receive the Sacraments on September 25.

Congratulations to those who were accepted into Chevalier College for Year 7 in 2012.

We are slowly getting used to a new translation of the Roman Missal - of the prayers, responses and chants we use at Mass. Old habits are dying hard - and reluctantly - for some.Fr Ronan has given a series of lectures on the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity to catechists, and in early September will be offering reflections at the annual retreat of the Australian Confraternity of Catholic clergy.

Stephen and Szidonia Toth chose St Joseph's for their Golden Wedding Anniversary on August 28. Family and friends joined them at a Mass of thanksgiving and then for a delicious lunch at the Jing Jo Cafe.

Peter McDonald and Jaye Frago will be married at St Joseph's on September 24.

We will be sorry to farewell Adrian and Caroline Burton at their return to Sydney.

They have been a great blessing to our community.

We contributed to a special collection in the parish on August 7 for those suffering in the famine in Somalia. The $14,000 collected was sent to Caritas International for distribution.
