August 2010 - How can your church pray for you?

Church of the Good Shepherd

For the next two months you may be asked how our church can pray for you.

Why? Well, we all know there is uncertainty about the bridge closure arrangements in 2011 and issues concerning future development in KV.

These issues are rightly making us uncertain of the future of our businesses and community life in the valley.

The bible says ‘Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you' (1 Peter 5:7).

God can help our community at this time when we pray to him, and we'd like to pray for each of you.

Over the last few weeks in our church services we've been taking an honest look at our human nature.

We've all made mistakes because of our anger, pride and selfishness, and some of us are still living with the consequences.

Jesus knows what our human nature is like. After all, he was killed on a cross because of other people's pride and anger!

In spite of our flawed characters, God offers us full forgiveness for what we have done. How? Through us saying sorry to God for our past actions and trusting in his son Jesus.

When we do this, God also begins the process of transforming our character so we become less like an angry proud person, and more like Jesus. How good is that!

During the school holidays it was great to have a triple baptism.

Charli-Ann, Harrison and Thomas (grandchildren of Ron and Janet Hackelton) were baptised on July 11.

So you know, Cuppas and Kids is back on for parents and their toddlers on Tuesdays from 9.30-11.30 am; Care and Share for craft-oriented people is on Thursdays from 1 pm to 3.30 pm; youth groups kick off again in August; and of course you are always welcome to come to either our traditional service (8.30 am) or family-friendly (10 am) Sunday services!

Regards,
Andrew Paterson.
