November 2011
Lion’s again was successful in securing some funding under the 2011 / 12 volunteers grant.
Under the terms of this grant the money is to be split three ways.
Some to go to the Pathways Action Group to reimburse them for the green fencing that has already been installed near Jarrett’s Lane. Some will go to help pay for fuels and other consumables for service tasks.
And finally the pride and joy of the club is the new shiny barbeque.
This is a mean machine that will cook thousands of sausages before it needs replacing.
Further on the Previous District Governors visit in September it made us all proud when he relayed stories from the Kangaroo Valley businesses that he frequented about how the local club has been strong for a long time and has supported many things within the community that often go unnoticed.
I thought I would take the next few lines to name some of the things that have become part of your local club history, as a new comer (not charter), I am sure that I will forget some things but here goes.
Ambulance station community centre, BMX track, open gardens, progressive dinners, yard clean ups, volley ball court, catering, swimming pool, garage sales, boots sales, district conventions, zone picnics, more catering, healthy communities, mowing, gardening, house cleaning, meals, firewood, projector screen Osborne Park, national conventions, computer at primary school, Pioneer Farm, footpaths, bridge tolls, dialysis centre, Youth of the Year, King of the Mountain, more catering, conventions, exchange students, overseas visiting clubs, mints, cakes, calendars, honey, peace poster, Bowlo Cup, more catering, Smith Family, campaigns such as cancer – sight-disaster – spinal cord – stem cell – youth, local scholarships, local families, street fairs, raffles, Kangaroo Valley Show, Anzac Day, markets, interclub visits, international conventions, tree planting, driver reviver just to name a few.
Not bad for a club that started primarily to chop wood for the elderly.
Bring on another 22 years.
And to also be a little indulgent the club is very proud to have had their endorsement of Lorraine Mairinger for the position of Second Vice District Governor for 2012/13 voted on at the recent district convention.
What this will mean is that in 2014/15 is that Kangaroo Valley will be the home of the District Governor, Lorraine Mairinger.
The club and community are proud, well done.
