May 2011
April sees the end of the visible work that your Lions members get involved in.
Of course winter is a time when many are still active helping some of the elderly and less able in the community.
Therefore if you don’t see us around don’t think that we have gone anywhere it will be a case of business as usual behind the scenes. An apology goes to one of our lifeguards who I failed to mention in our last column.
CJ (Chenier Moore) has now been with a few seasons and continues to be great worker.
With him and the others mentioned last week we can all be hopeful for the future.
Regular readers will have been following the progress of Rueben in his Youth of the Year quest.
He represented Kangaroo Valley with great skill but sadly missed out to the one contestant who recently took the National title at the convention in Launceston.
1000 lions from all over Australia converged on Launceston to the National Conference.
Angela Eyles, from Cambewarra Primary School was the local winner of the Peace Poster and went on to become the district winner.
A great result and her picture was well thought out and structured and truly representative of our multi-racial population.
Kangaroo Valley was represented by Franz Mairinger and John Kennedy (Coach Drivers) and Lorraine their tour director.
Together they headed south visiting some great parts of the country on their way.
Of course once they crossed the strait it was all business with four days of presentations workshops and reacquainting with other conference junkies.
Driver Reviver kicked off the Busy Easter long weekend.
Glad to report that numbers for the driver reviver were up and of course if we manage to prevent one person from being injured or worse then the cold nights in the ambulance station have all been worth it. It is also a rare chance for us locals to welcome people from other areas into our great community.
There are some regulars who look forward to the regular catch ups.
Anzac Day came and of course saw Lions were on deck providing some refreshments after our excellent parade and service.
It is one that all members like to participate in and is a very humbling experience for those that get involved.
