June 2011
Recently Kangaroo Valley Lions Club received an excellence award for the year 2009/2010.
This is approved by the District Governor and takes some time to filter back to the local club.
The banner patch, that is awarded will be displayed with pride on our lead club banner.
Clubs and districts that excel in community service, membership growth, communication and organizational management are awarded a prestigious Excellence Award.
This award is not handed out easily and all members of Kangaroo Valley should be proud of their efforts in receiving this award.
Plans are underway for the change over dinner when the new executive takes the reins for the coming twelve months.
The invitation list is currently being finalised but the night which will be held at Visions, who feed us very well, will be a night of fun and surprises. Surprises, as this is when President Howard will present his awards for contributions in the past year.
Whilst it would be good to provide good news all of the time it is not easy to say that many of our members are no longer physically able to participate in some of the activities which we have been performing for the past 21 years. More on that later but the biggest casualty will be the supply of fire-wood to some of our needy within the community.
The local club has made some donations including the local Pre School, as a contribution to their much needed new computer and some more help to the Spinal Cord program that the local club has been supporting since its inception.
It would be fair to say that most of us hope that one day there will not be a need to continue to support this program as a cure will be found.
Lions worldwide have set a challenge of planting 1 million new trees in the next twelve months.
If each club planted 20 trees this total will be achieved.
Kangaroo Valley club has already committed to planting 200 trees so are confident that the target will be exceeded thus helping to green our surrounds.
KV Lions would also like to say a thank you to all of you in the community who continue to support us.
The donations that were placed into the bucket at Anzac day ensure that Joan Bray’s great efforts will continue to be funded.
The show, despite some set-backs managed to raise enough to make a small contribution to A&H to help them top up their coffers.
The “disaster” collection tin has been collected from the Supermarket and the money collected will be submitted to LCIF to help in the many disasters that they have supported, more recently US $410,000 was used to assist with the recent tornados in the southern states of the USA.
On a more humanitarian note Lions are working in Ethiopia and Madagascar with the Gates Foundation and other Measles Initiative partners to provide needed vaccinations to 41 million children.
With the cooler weather and more unsafe conditions we all hope that you take extra precautions when driving as we value all of our neighbours and hope that we have you all for many more years to come.
