April 2011
The Lions Club of Kangaroo Valley exists because of the will of a few dedicated volunteers but more importantly because other members of this community support our activities.
We would not be able to do it without them.
The first acknowledgement goes to David Cochrane who supplied some items free or at cost for the catering at Kangaroo Valley Show. Recently the annual Bowlo cup was run and special thanks goes to Alison Baker and Paul Williams who behind the scenes organised yet another great night this year.
The bucket to donate to the too many disasters that we are experiencing remains at the Newsagent in the valley.
Your local club has agreed to send $500 off to Australian Lions Foundation (ALF) which is to continue the work with the victims of the floods and fires earlier this year. The club has also agreed to send $1,000 to the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) to help those affected by earthquakes in Christchurch and Japan. We are of course praying and hoping that the bucket can be removed next month.
The club has been working with council in attempting to find a solution for the swimming pool cover.
The council has strongly recommended that we do not proceed with the pool cover as it does create other problems.
In the meantime we ask that people withhold donations to the club for the pool cover until investigations are complete. Part of the current process is to explore other solutions so if members of the community have any ideas we would be very happy to receive them.
You can either email (kvlions@bigpond.com) or post (PO Box 6002) your suggestions.
On April 3, 2011 the swimming season comes to a close and this year the lifeguards, Mardi Oke, Rose Rodden, Emily Watson, Andrew Kent and Robbie Sharman have again done a great job in continuing to maintain this facility to the community.
On behalf of the community a big thanks to the team. Andrew, whilst in his first year and a late comer has proven to be a star and has come to the rescue at short notice on a number of occasions.
After the show the club likes to think that things go quiet for a while however March\April is likely to be a busy time.
On the March 27, the club will be represented at the Zone Picnic and also the Relay to Life walk. The Zone Picnic is all of the highland clubs and Kangaroo Valley putting on a fun filled day for some special people and their Carers. This is held at Moss Vale Showgrounds and is one of the most rewarding days in the Lions Calendar. Your local club has donated $1,000 to the relay for life walk which aims to fight that insidious cancer.
Of course Lions will also be there on Anzac Day and will also be there supporting the Rock Wallaby Information Day on April 2, 2011. On the evening of 22nd March was also the annual nomination and election night. The new committee for 2011/12 is shown below.
Of course we wish all of the incoming office bearers well. They will take their new positions at Change Over in June 2011.
The club and their members wish you all a Happy Easter and a time when you spend time with those that are special. Jason Horton
