December 2010

2010 Year in review

This year the Stage 3 students have written about some of the highlights of the school for 2010.

The last year at the school has been amazing. The new library that the school now has is a terrific addition to the school.

This modern facility will be great for the students.

Once again the school performed well, academically in the NAPLAN and in internal assessments.

In sport the school was outstanding. We won all three small school carnivals and were district champs in athletics and cross country. We had several students represent the district, with some students continuing on to the state championships.

In the arts we managed to have several wins and places at the Eisteddfod for drama, percussion and verse speaking.

The school had a fabulous choir led by Mrs Nickell that performed at the Choral Festival and the Folk Festival.

State Athletics

One of Kangaroo Valley Public’s School students, Montana, went to Homebush stadium to participate at the state athletics in the 200 metres.

I came 4th in my heat and made it to the semi finals and again came 4th in the heat I was in.

I was lucky to make it to the finals which were on the next day.

I had a great day and in the finals I came 7th out of 9 girls with a personal best of 29.01.

I will never forget the experience and I hope to make it back to state next year and maybe make it to nationals.

Hockey Knockout

n22Olivia, Sascha, Savannah, Montana, Kathryn, Erin, Jemima, Annabel, Tessa, Jamie, Jessica and I participated in the south coast hockey knockout.

We drove to Albion Park, turf  hockey fields. We played against Unanderra. And in the last minute Jamie waked  it up to Olivia and then Olivia hit the ball into the goal and the goalie kicked it back, but Olivia was not giving up yet, she flicked the ball and she SCORED!!! Everyone was so happy.

Our next game was against Gerringong.

We won 2-1, it was a very close game and we had extra time.

We won the following games after, and we made it to the final to be south coast champions.  Unfortunately, we lost the last game to be south coast champions by the last few seconds, Wollondilly had won 1 nil. It was a very close game but we were proud of the achievement we had made. And we had a great hockey coach “Meaghan”. We are now south coast champion’s runners up.

Maths challenge

Not long ago, we had a Times Table Maths Challenge. At morning assembly, Mrs Nickell would come up on stage and pick people to go up on stage and get tested on a times table. Mrs Nickell would ask them a question like 7x8 or 5x4, depending on what times table you’re doing. You would try and answer the questions correctly and fast. My favourite tables are 7’s.
