September 2009

Catrina Hylton brought her special show “Celebrations” to pre school for us to enjoy.

Her show took us on a journey around the world discovering celebrations from many cultures.

Every time our imaginations had to take us to a new place, one of the children was asked to strike Catrina’s gong three times.

We started off in Australia celebrating Australia Day, then travelled to Mexico for a birthday party.

Harry was asked to dress up as the Birthday girl’s father so that she could practise dancing with him in her new birthday shoes.

He looked very funny!

We travelled to India for a wedding. Catrina dressed up in a traditional red sari and Giacomo wore a gold turban.

They gave each other garlands of flowers, then raced each other around the wedding fire.

The first one to sit back down was to be the boss of the marriage! (Giacomo was the fastest!)

We all did some Bollywood dancing to celebrate the wedding!

After the wedding we went to China to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Crystal was asked to dress up as a rabbit, Ruby was asked to hold a toy snake and Thomas was asked to wear tiger gloves!

The rabbit has great vision, the snake has a spirit of adventure and the tiger has strength and courage, all great qualities to take into the new year.

These three children were then asked to dress up as a Chinese dragon because the dragon is a creature that is a combination of all the qualities of the other animals.

We sang happy birthday to all the children who have birthdays soon and finished the show by learning how to cross our arms and hold hands with the person next to us to sing the Scottish folk song Auld Lang Syne.

Thank you Catrina for bringing your show

to Kangaroo Valley!
