October 2011
The new Garden Group system (of members taking on the organisation for a month) worked really well on its first occasion:
Judy Inall planned a wonderful day for all vegetable garden enthusiasts and her account follows.
The Garden Group welcomed Spring by visiting the garden of Helen and John George on a perfect sunny day.
We were shown John’s creation, Cundall Hollow, a beautiful garden/potting ‘shed’, which was his gift to Helen for a recent birthday.
The orderliness inside impressed all of its visitors, with every tool/implement in its place.
The greenhouse, sitting by the shed, houses tomato plants in pots which have produced tomatoes through winter and are continuing to produce in their second year.
The adjoining vegetable garden was an inspiration to everyone and we were reminded by Helen that the most important thing is to visit one’s vegetable garden every day.
The vegetables not needing protection from wildlife are grown in a separate garden for potatoes, rhubarb, pumpkin and asparagus.
From there we drove to Jing Jo where David showed us through their wonderful vegetable and herb garden, which provides much of the ingredients for the restaurant.
Many of us then stayed to enjoy their produce with a delicious lunch.
