Garden group holds VIAGM at Festival site
The Garden Group likes to hold its VIAGM (Very Informal AGM) around the anniversary of St. Fiacre, the Patron Saint of Gardeners.
He died on 18th August 670 AD so, on 19th August, we met at Trish and Ken Jessop's lovely garden in Bellawongarah.
This beautiful garden will be familiar to most of you as it was the site for this year's Open Sculpture Exhibition during the Kangaroo Valley Arts Festival. It is a very informal meeting because, after a few points, we usually close for a garden tour and then a delicious lunch.
This year two guest speakers honoured us: Keith Learn and Simone O'Halloran.
Keith spoke about the new fence in front of the Hall, explaining how carefully the design of the original was found and copied.
We all agreed that it looks wonderful and were very happy to offer to help with the planting and maintenance of any garden beds needed to soften the entrance, feeling that it is a great community exercise.
Simone spoke about the Pre-School's front yard space and the idea to beautify the area with plantings.
This would hopefully be a way to naturally eliminate the toxic fumes from the traffic on the busy road and provide some privacy screening for the little children.
It could also be a way to encourage them to become involved in growing vegetables and plants.
We hope to visit the site in the school holidays to look at all possibilities.
There are some wonderful outings coming up and also some good days organised by the DPI.
