February 2014

Church of the Good Shepherd

Christmas 2013 was well attended at both the Catholic and Anglican churches in town.

Carols in the Valley on Sunday 15 December was threatened by rain but it held off long enough for an enjoyable evening.

Rick Saur of ‘Folking Mad’ Productions did a fantastic job with sound and lighting on the night.

Our theme was the animals of Christmas.

A special animal patting area at the back of the church site was a great success on the night. Our MC was Neil Gripper who dressed up as a shepherd.

Both children and adults were entertained and sang heartily as we thanked God for the birth of Jesus.

In December we were sad to say farewell to the Horrox family who returned to England after nearly five years in Kangaroo Valley. They will be missed.

From now until Easter on Sunday mornings we’re revisiting the essentials of the Christian faith.

Each Sunday through this period we’ll be looking at what a Christian believes.

God wants us all to ‘truly welcome’ truths from the Bible about himself.

So often we can assume things about God which actually are not in the Bible and are just not true!

So why not come along and hear Andrew and other guest speakers on the topic of ‘truly welcoming Jesus into your life’ over the next couple of months.

If you have kids, we have a regular kids’ church program and a youth group for all kids under 18 during the informal 10am Sunday service.

Otherwise if you prefer a traditional service with hymns, come to the 8.30 am service on a Sunday.

This year our church is partnering with Anglican churches in Sydney, Wollongong and the Shoalhaven to present Jesus together to as many communities as we can.

The campaign is called ‘Jesus Brings’. You’ll see signs up around the place when you drive along, not just in Kangaroo Valley but all across the regions I mentioned.

The goal for this campaign is simply to give people an opportunity to say yes or no to becoming a Christian, based on what God himself says in the Bible. If you want to know more about God give me a call or. if you see me or any Christian around the village, come and ask your questions about God, and we’ll try to answer them for you.

May God truly bless you this year.
