Bushwalking Group Report - Lee Sharam

This month's adventures on the track.

February 2014

Here is the Bushwalking Group’s program for 2014.

We hope that you will join us for all or even just one of these walks.

All walks are on a Sunday, although please note that the March walk is one where we spend four nights in Jindabyne and take our walks from there.

Our first walk is on February 23rd and we will be discovering another side of Wollongong.

From March 31st to April 4th we will be walking in the Jindabyne/Snowy Mountains area, staying at a ski lodge for the four nights, all organised by Barbara and Maurie Bloom.

On April 13th we will be heading in the opposite direction, to complete a circuit of Thirlmere Lakes.

On May 18th we will be closer to home, walking in Bundewallah Nature Reserve.

On June 15th we are repeating our walk on Comerong Island, in response to many requests.

On July 13th we are walking around the Hugh Boyd Reserve and Bellawongarah Cemetery.

On August 10th it is a special surprise walk, courtesy of Dave Selby.

On September 14th we will be walking on Moyen Hill.

On October 5th there is another surprise walk, led by the ever popular guide, Bruce Latham.

On November 9th we will trek on Bunkers Hill.

On December 7th we have a short walk and then our Christmas party.

Please note these dates in your diaries and phone Fran Pritchard on 4465 1599 or email me at to be included on our list.

This means that you will receive the updated information after we have done the recces (such as distance and difficulty level) and find out what you need to bring along.

Walk grades

The following are some recommended standards for grading the level of difficulty for walks.

Very easy: The walk is suitable for wheelchairs and prams.

Easy: The walk has relatively gentle grades and good surfaces.

Medium: There are mostly good surfaces on the walk, but there are some rough or steep sections.

Medium/Hard: The walk includes rough and steep sections, which may require clambering.

Hard: The walk is strenuous involving steep ascents or descents over rough terrain.

It is recommended for fit and/or experienced walkers.
